Residents are now receiving their Council Tax demands which include an amount to meet the Kennington Community Council budget for 2023-24. The Community Council has kept constant the amount – the ‘Precept’ – which it asks Kennington residents to contribute through their Council Tax payments. This is £28.31 per year for the average Band D property, about 55 pence per week.

The Council has just completed a public consultation in conjunction with Ashford Borough Council on options for the Borough-owned site at Bockhanger Square to replace the Community Centre, demolished in 2019. The surrounding area has become a 20-mph zone following completion of the necessary road improvements.

The Community Council is budgeting for further road improvement initiatives in the next financial year. It also plans to work with the Borough Council on sprucing up some play areas. The Borough Council recently carried out major new play area installations at Rylands Road and Spearpoint Playing Fields (‘The Ridge’) but several other play areas across Kennington have fallen below the quality residents can reasonably expect.

The Council will continue to run a grant scheme for local non-profit clubs and organisations, a scheme which operates on an ‘always open’ basis for applications.
