Community Speedwatch: Keeping Our Roads Safer Together

Have you ever worried about cars speeding? You’re not alone. Many of us have seen drivers going too fast, especially near schools, shops, and residential areas. That’s where Community Speedwatch comes in – and you can be part of it!

What is Community Speedwatch?
It’s a simple idea: local volunteers, working alongside the police, use speed monitoring equipment to check how fast vehicles are travelling in our neighbourhood. If someone’s driving over the limit, their details are passed on to the police. Drivers usually get a friendly warning letter – but persistent speeders can expect further action.

Why It Matters
· Protects people and pets: Slower speeds mean safer roads for children, pedestrians, cyclists and our pets.
· Raises awareness: Just seeing volunteers in high-vis jackets reminds drivers to think twice.
· Brings neighbours together: It’s a positive way to make a real difference in our community.

Who Can Join?
Anyone over 18 can volunteer. Training is provided, and you’ll work as part of a small team. It’s not about catching people out – it’s about encouraging safer driving where we live.

The Local Impact
Communities that run Speedwatch often notice drivers slowing down. Even the presence of a team by the roadside has a big effect – a small effort that makes a big difference.
