Following a Borough Council consultation with local residents, a Community Council for the parish of Kennington was established and formally came into being in April 2019. 

 

In April 2026, Full Council resolved that the authority should be styled as Kennington Town Council, reflecting the growth and identity of our community. 

 

Kennington Town Council represents the parish through 16 elected councillors, serving the wards of Bybrook, Grosvenor Hall (Bockhanger), Kennington, Kennington North, and Little Burton Farm & Conningbrook. Elections take place every four years. 

 

As the first tier of local government, the Town Council is a civil parish council responsible for representing residents, supporting local services and facilities, and helping to shape the future of the area. Each year the Council sets a budget, funded by a precept, which is collected as part of the Borough Council Tax paid by local households. 

 

The Council meets regularly, usually on the second Wednesday of each month, and residents are welcome to attend. 

 

We also host a monthly coffee morning on the third Monday of each month, from 10:30am to 12:30pm, at Spearpoint Pavilion. 

Councillors and council staff attend, often joined by local police representatives and Peter New from Neighbourhood Watch. It’s an informal opportunity to meet us, ask questions and raise local issues.
