Do you have an eye for a good project?
Kennington Community Council is looking for two local residents to join its Project Assessment Panel. The panel includes 4 councillors and 2 non-councillors, all of whom have an equal vote in making recommendations to Council on grant applications from local not for profit groups. The Panel’s job is to check that applications meet the criteria in the Council’s grant schemes and assess the practicality and viability of the proposal.
Several grants to date have allowed groups to complete their fundraising and go ahead with the project. These include the Mindfulness Garden at the Downs View infant school, the replacement floor at the Kennington WI Hall and the Adult Gym on the Rylands Road play area. Grants are for one-off costs. These do not have to be equipment or building costs and might be for training or other start-up costs.
You will need to meet the criteria in the Council’s policy for non-councillor members – similar to the criteria that apply to councillors. You might have a background in project selection or project management or perhaps a good knowledge of the not for profit sector.
The Panel is demand-led, depending on the number of applications but is likely to meet three evenings a year. The appointments are unpaid, like the position of councillor, but out of pocket expenses can be claimed. Ask Deborah Prior (clerk@kenningtoncc.gov.uk) for an application form today. Applications close at 5 pm on Monday 27 November and you should hear within one week of that date whether you have been appointed.
