Good News for Kennington businesses

The Council was delighted to learn that Stagecoach has now accepted that the introduction of all day time restrictions on parking in the lay-by on Faversham Road was not warranted.

The Council had argued that Kent Highways Department was mistaken in accepting the need for the restrictions as the company’s own figures showed that only two or three passengers a day caught a bus from this stop. It seemed likely that even fewer were alighting there.

Although Kent Highways told the Council that it would no longer accept correspondence on the subject – in effect implying that the Council was being vexatious in pursuing the matter – the Council pursued the argument further through the area’s borough and county Councillors, several of whom are also Community Councillors.

The Council hopes that in future Kent Highways will follow its own guidelines and consult locally on these issues before introducing restrictions without warning. The Council has a good relationship with Kent Highways who have proved very supportive towards Kennington’s Highways Improvement Plan and we are keen to cement this relationship going forwarded.
